Offensive and Defensive Rules for Food City Border Bowl


Defense – Must Run a 4-3

  • No walk-ups

  • No Man Coverage

  • Cannot cover up center

  • Cover 2 and Cover 4

  • LB’s no more than 3 ½ yards from L.O.S.

  • If offense penetrates past the 10 yard line, defense can adjust to a 6 man front.



  • No unbalanced formations

  • One back must be in the backfield at all times (must be between tackles)

  • Motion can be used

  • No shifting


Special Teams

  • All special teams are live

  • When defending the punt, base defense 4-3 must be used.  You can only rush 4.

  • In a punt situation, two contain, two from the middle.

  • PAT, Field goal – 6 man rush only – 3 on each side of ball – no overloading any one gap.

  • Kickoff is live – onside kick may be used.
